Committee on State Cartography
The Committee on State Cartography (CSC) acts as an advisory committee to the State Cartographer's Office (SCO). In this role, the CSC meets two times annually (spring and fall) with staff to review recent SCO activities and assess future strategic directions. The CSC primary function is to provide guidance and advice regarding SCO activities. It has carried out this support role with the SCO for more than 30 years.

The CSC members are appointed by the Dean of the UW-Madison College of Letters & Science (L&S) to three-year renewable terms. Members are selected to represent mapping-related academic disciplines on campus, and mapping-related activities within state and local government agencies. History of the CSC
The CSC was formed in 1974 by John C. Weaver, President of the University of Wisconsin System. The initial meeting was held in March 1975. The chair and members were appointed by the Chancellor from 1974 to 1982 consisting of representatives from:

•	Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering
•	Department of Geography
•	Wisconsin Geological & Natural History Survey
•	One “at large” representative with an interest in mapping from the UW System
•	Department of Administration
•	Department of Natural Resources
•	Department of Transportation

In 1982, members have been appointed by the Dean of L&S to three-year renewable terms at their departments discretion.
