Job Summary:

The Environmental Observation and Informatics (EOI) Professional MS program in the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies is now preparing to launch its first cohort June, 2018. The EOI Program Coordinator will lead and manage all startup activities for the EOI Program including initial admissions, with support from the EOI Program Chair, Nelson Institute Professional Programs Director, and Professional Programs Assistant Director. Once the EOI program launches, the Program Coordinator will manage all day-to-day activities of the EOI program, as well as identify and plan for arising program needs, such as providing student support services, leading all efforts to identify and organize student MS projects, facilitating EOI curriculum and advising relationships across campus, and managing EOI event coordination.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Student Services Management (55%)

  • Provide information to prospective students. Respond to initial program inquiries and answer questions from potential students
  • Work with Student Services Specialist to provide program orientation for admitted EOI students, and respond to EOI student questions
  • Work with Student Services Specialist to monitor EOI student progress and advise students on fall semester course options
  • Lead all efforts to mentor students to help them identify leadership placements with the EOI Program partner network, while coordinating leadership experience arrangements with host placement partners (weekly meeting to update Assistant Director on project development)
  • Identify and secure faculty advisors on campus to support student MS projects
  • Work with Student Services Specialist to prepare welcome materials for incoming student cohort
  • Work with Student Services Specialist to maintain current databases on student project placements and career placements
  • Coordinate with EOI Student Services Specialist about effective management of all student services needs

Program Development, Outreach, and Administration (35%)

  • Assist Program Director and Program Committee in refining program curricular details
  • Actively recruit students: Develop marketing strategies and materials in cooperation with Program Committee and Nelson Institute Communications and Outreach Office, including identification of strategic graduate fairs and professional meetings in consult with Professional Programs Director and Assistant Director.
  • Distribute recruiting materials / publicize program through key events, visits and outlets
  • Conduct initial applicant reviews, make recommendations for admission
  • Work with Student Services Specialist to coordinate plans and travel logistics for Summer Conservation Institute speakers
  • Write or assist with writing proposals and reports to support the program and its activities
  • Develop and/or coordinate program-related visits/events

Additional Duties (10%)

  • Participate in program and staff meetings
  • Participate in relevant professional development opportunities
  • Participate in diverse initiatives on campus (e.g. Geospatial Alliance)
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Occasional travel (domestic and international) will be required for recruiting and professional networking.

Education & Experience:

  • Master's degree in environmental sciences, geospatial sciences, environmental management, or closely related field required.
  • Minimum of five years professional experience coordinating or managing projects within public, private, or non-profit offices and / or higher education related to natural resource management required.
  • Experience with student coordination or mentoring, and familiarity with professional environmental academic programs strongly preferred.
  • Technical expertise with GIS, remote sensing, UAVs, and/or data analytics is desired.
