Snowmobile Trails
There are more than 25,000 miles of top-quality trails that link every corner of the state. The trails are well marked and methodically groomed by hundreds of snowmobile clubs. For a statewide view of major interconnected trails, the
Wisconsin Department of Tourism (800-432-TRIP) produces a Snowmobile Trail Map. Using the standard State Highway Map as a subdued backdrop, this large fold-out map of Wisconsin shows the state's east-west and north-south Corridor Trails. Half the state is detailed on each side. It also includes trail contacts and snow condition phone numbers for each of the state's 72 counties.

This Wisconsin Department of Tourism also produces the Wisconsin Snowmobile Guide, a link to Wisconsin's top 18 snowmobiling trails and tours. Each map includes trail mileage, parking areas, contacts for local information and snow conditions, and an extensive narrative describing on and off-route attractions. Visit the Wisconsin Department of Tourism's website for more information.

Local snowmobile clubs, chambers of commerce, tourism centers, or local governments may produce detailed maps of trails within local areas. The Snowmobile Trail Map includes listings of Community Tourist Centers (with telephone numbers) as well as state, federal, and county trail system contacts.

Wisconsin has a program administered by the Department of Natural Resources and cooperating counties, and funded from snowmobile license fees and gas taxes, to mark and maintain thousands of miles of trails. Much of the field work done under the program is handled by local snowmobile clubs.

ATV Trails
In the past decade, All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) have become a very popular part of outdoor recreation. With thousands of miles of "snow highways" developed for snowmobiling, counties throughout the state are quickly transforming their winter snowmobile trails into summer ATV trails. There are over 900 miles of trails and intensive use areas available for all-terrain vehicle riding.

The Wisconsin Department of Tourism web site gives locations, descriptions, and brief explanations of trails and areas as well as descriptions of nearby facilities and local contacts. Of course, for the most current information on trail conditions, trail maps, and the opening and closing dates of trails, call the contact number indicated. Most of the trail sponsors also produce a quality map that is perfect for on-the-trail use.
