New 2013 Calendar "Wisconsin Waters" Print
By Brenda Hemstead
December 14, 2012

The photograph was taken about 90 years ago by H.R. Aldrich featuring the Upper Falls at Amnicon Falls State Park in northwestern Wisconsin. This placid image belies the series of violent events that led to the waterfall's creation. The story begins over a billion years ago, when a rip in the continent caused lava to pour across the land surface. This rock layer was eventually buried beneath layers of sediment. An ancient fault shoved the ground skyward, exposing the hard volcanic rocks that now serve as the backdrop for the waterfall.

For just $7.50, you can order the 22 x 28-inch calendar rolled in a tube and ready for framing from the Wisconsin Geological & Natural History Survey.
