GIS Courses & Programs
GIS courses have become common at higher education facilities in Wisconsin.
The four-year campuses in the University
of Wisconsin System, except Superior and Stout, offer either specific
courses in GIS or at least significant GIS content in one or more courses.
Additionally, GIS is offered at some private colleges and tech schools.
At UW-Madison GIS courses are offered in several different departments including The Institute for Environmental Studies, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Soil Science, and of course the Geography Department, which specifically offers a GIS Graduate Certificate Program.
At UW-Milwaukee William Huxhold in the Urban Planning Department leads a program that concentrates on urban applications of GIS, and other GIS courses are offered in the Geography Department.
In the way of private colleges, Carthage College has a full geography program with GIS Lab, and Northland College offers an introductory GIS course and courses for integrating GIS into web design.
Technical colleges are also beginning to offer training in GIS, such as Chippewa Valley Technical College's GIS Technician program.
