Web Feature Services
Research HomeThe next step in distributing this information to the widest possible audience is to publish this geodetic control information as an INCITS-L1 standards-based service in the Open Web Services (OWS) architecture. This will enable a comprehensive view and access point to Wisconsin geodetic control information from distributed source agencies through a single portal-like service. We aim to facilitate more automated update of our index of statewide control information by encouraging agencies to make their control accessible through map services, specifically, point feature services encoded in GML format. The technology to do this is recent and the visible working models are few.
Web Services need to provide a solution of database schema transformation among different schema adopted by distributed agencies. The Federal Geographic Data Comittee and the State Cartographer's Office are working on a standard geodetic control schema. This project also investigates ways of handling user queries, sending these queries to different sources with different schema, and transforming schema.
NGS Geodetic Control Points from Mapserver
These links provide responses from requests to a Mapserver WFS server. The GetFeature response is the GML output, which is GML2 and not
compliant with the FGDC Framework schema. This service can be opened in a WFS client.
Transformed WFS Service
These links provide a WFS service like the first three links, except the output has been transformed to meet the framework data content standard.
WFS GetCapabilities (GML 2.1.2)Schemas
These schemas are based on the Framework Data Content Standard for Geodetic Control.
