The Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. has announced the successful completion of fund raising to purchase the only known copy of the famous 1507 Waldseemuller map believed to be the first showing the word “America.” The map will go on display to the public this July 24 as part of the exhibit “Rivers, Edens, Empires: Lewis & Clark and the Revealing of America.” The exhibition is scheduled to run through November 29.
