Job Summary:

The American Geographical Society Library, UW-Milwaukee Libraries, is seeking a future focused, highly motivated and service oriented Geospatial Information Specialist. The successful candidate joins a dynamic, experienced staff in theAGSLand a growing team ofUWMlibrarians committed to developing and supporting digital scholarship services for faculty and students and will work collaboratively with other units across campus in advancing geospatial driven scholarship atUWM. The incumbent will have responsibility for curating and maintaining the digital spatial data clearinghouse, promoting interdisciplinary use of geographically referenced information in digital scholarship, providing reference and instruction services for geospatial information, supervision of student interns, and collaboration with other library colleagues atUWM.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Advanced degree in geography, cartography, or related discipline
  • GIScertificate, coursework, or minimum 2 yearsGISexperience
  • Demonstrated understanding of cartographic and geospatial resources for libraries
  • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of the geospatial data lifecycle
  • Minimum 1 year professional (post-degree or certificate) experience working in an academic or research library

Preferred

  • Experience with relational databases and geodatabase management
  • Knowledge and understanding of preservation challenges for geospatial data
  • Knowledge of one or more desktop or cloud basedGISsoftware applications
  • Experience with current metadata standards for geospatial data
  • GISprogramming/scripting experience (VBA/Python)
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact and work with diverse groups

  • Evidence of excellent organizational, communication and presentation skills
