Job Description:

Quantum Spatial is actively recruiting an embedded technician who possesses sound knowledge of ground penetrating radar (GPR) methodologies and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) principles. This position will be on-site at Fort McCoy, WI. The technician must be self-motivated with exceptional planning, critical thinking, analytical and communication skills. The technician must work well individually as a remote extension of the team and work without supervision to complete designated and/or required tasks.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Ability to set up, utilize and interpret the data from GPR equipment to investigate and ascertain the location of the site’s underground utilities.
  • Utilizes GPS technologies to accurately record the location and details regarding aboveground and underground utilities.
  • Generates spatial products and reports from GPR/GPS surveys by analyzing and interpreting survey data, field notes and/or as-builts drawings.
  • Must be willing to spend a substantial percentage of time in the field acquiring data.
  • Compares field and office mapping to resolve incongruous information issues, and may utilize Global Positioning System (GPS) or wireless GIS systems to collect or verify the accuracy of the existing GIS data.
  • Enters delineated map and descriptive information into the GIS through digitizing, key entry or other standard map data entry procedures
  • Import GIS and CADD data and developing, analyzing, manipulating, extracting and importing of data to meet customer requirements.
  • Able to interact with and clearly convey critical information to clients and colleagues, both on-site and remotely.
  • Develops GIS data layers and databases utilizing coordinate geometry and graphics to correspond with the information on design drawings, maps, plans and reports and prepares and maintains metadata for specific spatial data layers and databases.
  • Converts hardcopy-engineering as-built drawings into electronic formats.
  • Ensures quality assurance/quality control using proven methods for consistency, integrity, and accuracy.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be necessary (5% of the time).
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree Requirements: Associates degree from an accredited college or university with major work in physical or natural science, geography, engineering, planning, computer science or a related field
  • Experience using GPR equipment
  • Experience using GPS equipment
  • Experience utilizing CADD data and a confident knowledge of ESRI or vector-based software
  • Ability to interpret engineering/utility as-built drawings
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Google Drive
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Must possess or have the ability to attain a DoD Secret Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Geography, GIS or related field preferred
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Experience with using ground penetrating radar for utility location
  • Definitive understanding of key technologies (GIS, CAD, Database).
  • Experience w/ Army IGI&S, SDSFIE standards and/or DoD clients.
  • 2+ years of experience in a technical, professional work environment
