Job Summary:
This position serves as the Forest Inventory Specialist in the Bureau of Applied Forestry. The Forest Inventory Specialist works under the guidance of the Forest Products Services Team Leader and Urban and Rural Forest Inventory Analyst. This position will assist in analyzing forest inventory and other data sources (such a remotely sensed data) to provide information and analyses to resource managers. The work will include using databases, creating queries and reports from forest inventory datasets, and using GIS to spatially analyze these data. This position will work with US Forest Service staff to improve the database structure, queries and reporting tools for FIA (Forest Inventory and Analysis) and CFI (Continuous Forest Inventory) Evalidator databases.
This position will be responsible for consultation with internal and external WDNR clients. Occasional travel within the state is required.
Qualifications:
- Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Access; including database reports and queries
- Training or experience in GIS or related field
- Working knowledge of ESRI’s ArcGIS technologies including experience with ESRI geo-databases, spatial analyst tools, and other data management tools
- Knowledge of cartographic concepts and the ability to create maps for forestry staff and the citizens of Wisconsin

This is a limited term (LTE) position. Limited term positions do not automatically lead to or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employment, but this position does offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin. LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours within a twelve-month period. In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.
