Job Summary:
La Crosse County has an opportunity for a Soil and Water Conservation Planner to provide soil and water conservation planning assistance for agricultural farming operations. This position will also spend time as a construction site erosion control inspector under the County’s Erosion Control/Land Disturbance Ordinance.
Duties:
- Has primary responsibility for coordinating the technical and administrative functions of the Farmland Preservation Program.
- Assists with the County’s Farmer Education Nutrient Management Program.
- Maintains GIS database for compliance with State soil and water conservation standards.
- Develops and reviews erosion control plans under the Erosion Control Provision of the Uniform Dwelling Code (UDC) for one and two family dwellings.
- Monitors Farmland Preservation Program participants for compliance with State soil and water conservation standards.
- Performs topographic surveys and assists in the design and layout of various Best Management Practices (BMP).
- Evaluates land use needs, develops conservation plans and monitors plan compliance under Chapter NR 151.
- Prepares and presents oral and written reports and papers.
- Uses desktop and field book computers, GPS field survey equipment and related software programs.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in physical or natural science, engineering, agriculture, water resources management, agronomy, or other related fields with knowledge of hydrology chemistry, biology and soils.
- Three years experience in soil and water conservation.
- May consider other relevant combinations of training and experience.
- DATCP Agricultural Engineering Practitioner Certification required.
