Job Summary:

This position exists to provide additional technical expertise to the Platting Unit and to review MnDOT Right of Way Plats and other Land Title graphic documents in accordance with MnDOT Policies and Standards (MnDOT Platting Manual) within the Agency. Responsibilities include:

  • Serving as an advisor and technical expert to the districts and the consultants in the preparation of MnDOT Right of Way Acquisition Plats.
  • Providing accurate, precise decisions that support the Department’s Program Delivery schedule.
  • Training staff statewide in the preparation of MnDOT Right of Way Plats and other graphic products.
  • Will provide supervision to the Platting Unit Staff in the absence of the Platting Unit Supervisor.

**NOTE: This vacancy is being posted at two different job classes at the same time: Land Surveyor Senior and Land Surveyor in training. Only one vacancy will be filled.

Qualifications:

Land Surveyor Senior Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be licensed as a professional Land Surveyor with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design or be able to obtain licensure through reciprocity.

Land Surveyor in Training Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a land surveying related field
  • Two years of post-graduate level land surveyor experience
  • Completion of the Fundamentals of Surveying exam

Both levels require:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Public Land Survey System
  • Knowledge of the Minnesota laws, regulations and standard surveying practices as they apply to MnDOT R/W Platting.
  • Valid Class D Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of field surveying situations and how they relate to R/W Plats in order to provide guidance to Staff and the Department on issues relating to land surveying.
  • The ability to communicate the surveying and platting principles to users and clients through emails, red lines, phone calls, text messages and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret Subdivision Plats and Registered Land Surveys.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret Work Maps, Authorization Maps and Right of Way Maps.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret MnDOT Certification of Title Opinions, MnDOT Parcel Deeds, MnDOT Parcel Final Certificates and other legal land descriptions.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret MnDOT Commissioner’s Orders (Trunk Highway) as applied to the development of MnDOT R/W Plats.
