Job Summary:

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is currently filling an IS Data Services Senior position within the Division of Environmental Management, Office of Great Waters.This position is responsible for processing spatial geographic and/or remote sensing data related to the Office of Great Waters (OGW) activities, developing and implementing appropriate GIS procedures and database development and implementation methods. Additionally, the GIS Analyst provides information and consulting support to the OGW central office and regional staff for spatial geographic and remote sensing database development and other GIS issues to OGW and outside cooperators. The GIS Analyst will also be responsible to develop appropriate documentation, education and outreach products.

Qualifications:

Required skills for this position include:

  • Use of GIS systems, such as ArcGIS, to perform technical geospatial data collection, processing, coordinate conversion, distribution, and data management
  • Translating non-technical specifications from business users into technical documentation / processes
  • Providing guidance to management based on the collection methods, quality, and results of data collected

In addition to the required skills, highly qualified candidates will also have the following preferred skills:

  • Experience using regional, comparable data to make best-practice recommendations and/ or decisions
  • Experience georeferencing data
  • GIS experience in a water-related field (e.g sediment, wetlands, etc)
  • Experience managing data for large aquatic ecosystems such as the Great Lakes, Mississippi River, or other comparable region
  • Experience working with external partners on data systems or decisions
