Job Summary:
This position functions as the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Administrator for the Department of Military Affairs. This position is the agency’s primary technical authority for geographic information system (GIS) architecture direction and support. As such, it is responsible for designing, developing, implementing and maintaining highly complex IT infrastructure to support agency-wide GIS systems. Will be responsible for the independent development, implementation, and communication of policies, procedures, standards, and best practices associated with technical solutions, as well as implementation of the technical solutions themselves. The assigned duties also include coordinating all GIS activities for the Department of Military Affairs. In coordinating GIS activities, the GIS Administrator will lead junior GIS staff in the development of all GIS related automated applications, will be responsible for GIS infrastructure related procurement including all software and hardware purchase and will be the primary point of contact for the Department by engaging with Federal, State and Local GIS personnel including the State’s Geographic Information Officer (GIO). The GIS Administrator will advise both the National Guard and Wisconsin Emergency Management during emergencies and will coordinate all GIS activities for the Department during an emergency.
Qualifications:
Candidates who meet minimum qualifications will have experience with:
- Developing technical policies and standards for the use of GIS technology and systems for an organization.
- Architecting and deploying GIS enterprise offerings for an organization.
- Performing operational VMware and server administration.
- Maintaining a scalable and high availability virtual environment utilizing VMware vSphere ESXi.
Well-qualified candidates will also have experience with:
- Reviewing and advising on GIS related legislation that may have an impact on the organizational mission.
- Oversee contract work for GIS projects.
- Serve as the technical resource for VM related infrastructure projects.
