Job Summary:

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Division of Business Management, Bureau of Information Technology is recruiting to fill an IS Systems Development Services Specialist (GIS Project Lead/Administrator) position! This position is located at the Hill Farms State Office Building at 4822 Madison Yards Way in Madison.

This position provides advanced technical leadership and direction in Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) as a Project Leader and a GIS Administrator for the GIS Core team that serves the Department of Transportation.

Duties:

As a GIS Project Leader, this position is responsible for the planning, integration and connectivity of complex, disparate distributed GIS facilities that involve multiple hardware and software platforms, development environments and tools, and emerging technologies and architectures in areas such as ArcGIS Server, GIS application servers, ArcIMS, and ArcSDE. This position provides advanced project leadership for complex GIS infrastructure projects.

As a GIS Administrator, this position makes recommendations regarding GIS system architecture, direction, support and system management and is responsible for the hands-on installation and on-going support of the DOT enterprise GIS infrastructure, including the entire suite of ESRI GIS products and associated software/hardware required to support the use of GIS services.

As a member of GIS Core, this team supports DOTs GIS Developer as such it is important that this position promotes the use of distributed GIS concepts and methodologies, and leads the development, dissemination, and enforcement of policies, procedures and guidelines for the use of GIS-based facilities. Specifically, for providing GIS services work with performance expectations, reliability and security to serve as the foundation for some of the department’s most high profile, critical systems. This position coordinates development of distributed GIS architectures and definitions for all major GIS systems in all DOT divisions. This position may also perform GIS development depending on skillset.

It serves as a technical consultant and provides direction and support to application development project leaders in the architecture of systems using distributed GIS methodologies and toolsets. Coordination and consultation with many other technical support units, applications development units, other state agencies, and vendors is involved.

Qualifications:

Minimally qualified candidates must:

  • Have education (e.g. coursework, training etc.) or work experience in Geospatial Information Systems (GIS).
  • Have experience with providing GIS Administration and/or managing GIS related projects.
