Job Summary:
The Champaign County GIS Consortium is currently seeking a full-time GIS Technician. Under the direction of the GIS Director, the GIS Technician is responsible for the creation and maintenance of GIS data and maps using GIS software. The position may be responsible for directing the work of others on a project basis. The position will involve interaction with Consortium members, clients and the general public.
Duties:
- Oversee assigned GIS tasks
- Interpret and research land boundaries from legal descriptions, plat surveys, and deeds
- Create and maintain GIS data layers
- Develop and complete data quality control procedures
- Create GIS maps utilizing accepted cartographic practices and design
- Provide GIS technical support to Consortium members and clients
- Fulfill data orders and general map requests
- Review the work of others and Direct the work of others on a project basis
- Other tasks as required by GIS Director
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, with a concentration in Geography, GIS or a related field preferred; GIS experience may be considered a substitute for a Bachelor’s degree
- Experience with interpretation and research of property legal descriptions, the Public Land Survey System, and parcel mapping in a GIS environment preferred
- Expertise with ESRI GIS edit, topology, query and annotation tools
- Ability to construct advanced spatial and tabular database queries
- Ability to perform basic GIS analysis
- Familiarity with Python (ArcPy, SMTP and other relevant libraries)
- Familiarity with surveying and/or COGO parcel compilation methods
- General understanding of an Enterprise Geodatabase
- Ability to manage time to meet deadlines
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Excellent organizational, analytical and verbal skills
