Job Summary:
As a GIS Support Specialist, you will provide Geographic Information System (GIS) technical assistance to the Department of Natural Resources staff statewide, including on-site GIS support to regional and field offices in DNR Region 2 (based out of Grand Rapids).
Qualifications:
Required
Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume:
- This position requires a minimum of two (2) years of GIS support experience with ESRI desktop software ArcGIS.
- A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field may substitute for two years of experience, or a related Associate’s may substitute for one year.
Preferred
- Effective communication with a variety of stakeholders.
- Familiarity with Garmin, Trimble, or similar Global Position System (GPS) units.
- A demonstrated ability to work with database management systems such as Microsoft Access software.
- Attention to detail and the ability to quickly master new technical procedures and technology.
- Ability to perform vector and raster GIS data analysis using spatial overlay, map algebra, and data relation tools.
- Ability to organize, document and edit spatial data sets.
- Certification as a Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP)
- Demonstrated experience with ArcGIS Pro.
- A demonstrated ability to use scripting languages such as Python or JavaScript.
- Experience with DNR GIS productivity tools such as QuickLayers, LandView and DNR GPS.
- Experience with mobile data collection software such as Collector for ArcGIS or Survey123 or Avenza Maps.
- Familiarity and experience with the Geospatial Data Resource Site (GDRS) and content.
- Experience with online computer support service delivery tools such as Bomgar or Lync.
- Demonstrated ability to create both printed and online cartographic products using ArcGIS and ArcGIS Online.
