Job Summary:
The GIS Section Chief provides overall management for the Geographic Information Services (GIS) section to provide GIS services to the agency, enterprise and state organizations and entities engaged in providing geographic information to staff and citizens. This person will lead GIS projects and integrations across the Business, and creates transparency and awareness to risks and opportunities, to help ensure quality delivery, productivity, efficiency and effectiveness. Additionally, the Section Chief participates in strategic and tactical planning functions and meetings, represents the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and collaborates with state-wide GIS stakeholders.
This person is expected to be a trusted, approachable and professional expert on GIS project management best practices and optimizations within a distributed IT environment. This role leads the cross-organizational collaborative work group on GIS.
Qualifications:
Required
- Experience in a leadership role (e.g. formal lead worker, project manager, etc)
- Experience managing and prioritizing IT projects
- Experience developing and implementing IT plans, goals, policies and/or procedures
Preferred
- Experience in a formal supervisory / management role
- Experience managing and prioritizing GIS projects
- Experience managing organizational or transitional change at multiple levels of an organization
- Experience with budget development / monitoring
