Job Summary:
This is technical support work performed in the Department of Transportation Parking Division. This work involves a variety of activities including: data collection and tabulation, performing parking compliance checks, providing non-routine information to the public, maintaining parts of the City’s geographic information system (GIS) database, preparing maps and graphics for print and web, accessing and retrieving data from various databases/geodatabases, maintaining portions of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), performing field data collection, georeferencing, digitizing, and other related field and office work. Assignments are received from higher level technical or professional staff, who define the scope of the work/project, provide assistance and guidance, and review the final product.
Movement to the Civil Technician-Parking Utility 2 level is based on increased independence and demonstrated ability to perform more complex and/or comprehensive technical support functions, generally after 2 years as a Civil Technician-Parking Utility 1.
Duties:
- Update and maintain the City’s parking assets and records in GIS and other systems.
- Use information from various sources to confirm Parking Utility data accuracy.
- Maintain list and map of addresses ineligible for Residential Parking Permits (RP3).
- Update database documentation when changes occur.
- Perform field related duties, as necessary, in support of mapping, record digitization, and other assigned tasks.
- Collect field measurements and data relating to the locations and attributes of parking facilities, systems, and assets.
- Collect parking occupancy data.
- Maintain parking sign inventory.
- Perform parking compliance field checks.
- Assist in providing technical support, training, and documentation to City Staff related to mapping applications, the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), and the License Plate Recognition (LPR) system.
- Provide data from existing databases to other Parking Utility data users.
- Run existing reports from various databases.
- Format and/or transform data outputs for use by City staff.
- Assist City staff and vendors in accessing parking data.
- Assist in providing information about and issuing permits for parking removal, meter hooding, temporary signing, street occupancy, and meter complaints.
- Take requests in person, by email, or over the phone from the public or other agencies to temporarily remove parking.
- Ensure information provided to customers is consistent with and conveyed in a manner consistent to City ordinances, policies, and procedures.
- Write work orders and communicate with maintenance staff to coordinate temporary parking removal.
- Provide maps and graphics for Parking Utility staff, other government agencies, and the public.
- Create and update digital and print maps of parking assets/data from GIS and other graphic processing software.
- Provide digital or print maps of parking assets/data to the public as requested.
- Provide charts, graphs, maps, or other graphic content for reports or studies.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Two years of experience performing technical office and/or field work in geography, cartography, GIS, or other discipline with a focus on spatial data.
- Vocational school or college in the area of GIS, geography, cartography or a closely related area may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the experience.

- Data collection techniques and computer applications as they relate to public works, transportation, parking, or other geographic-based information department.
