Finding the right fit:

Ayres is recognized as an industry leader in geospatial services and provides consulting to a wide range of professions and data users. The aerial mapping group is known for innovation and we’re at it again. We are seeking a technician with experience performing geospatial data extraction for electric and/or telecommunication utilities. The ideal candidate will be familiar with infrastructure and terminology associated with electric transmission and distribution and/or telecommunications and will be able to identify common facilities from geospatial data. Note: There is only one position available with the option of multiple office locations.

On any given day, you’ll:

  • Collect relevant utility assets from Lidar and image-based technology (mobile and aerial technology).
  • Assist in identifying software and formatting needs of clients and support data formatting to appropriate various deliverable software platforms.
  • Support data collection efforts on occasion in the field using data collectors and other GPS enabled devices.

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in geography, survey, engineering or other related technical field of study.
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in related field.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with T&D infrastructure and terminology.
  • Understand how to collect and measure points-of-attachment on T&D structures.
  • Working knowledge with one or more of the following software:  PLS-CADD, Esri geodatabase, O-calc, or CAD.
  • Familiarity with editing and classifying Lidar point clouds.
  • Understanding of coordinate systems.
  • A valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Desired Skills and Experiences:

  • Experience with surveying and/or GPS based data collection in the field.
  • Familiarity with telecom Outside Plant (OSP) engineering would be considered a plus.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients.
  • Experience with mobile data collectors.
  • Comfortable interacting with the general public and utility contractors while operating in the field.
  • Ability to work independently and train other technicians.
