Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) is seeking a creative, energetic individual with Geographic Information System (GIS) support skills to help us serve the citizens and communities of Wisconsin during times of disaster. WEM’s mission is to coordinate disaster response and recovery efforts in support of local emergency responders. To achieve our mission, we need a qualified GIS Coordinator to help us develop and maintain specialized technologies for information sharing and crisis management.
This position is located in the Department of Military Affairs, Wisconsin Emergency Management. The headquarters for this position is located just north of the MATC Truax campus in Madison, with free parking available just outside the door.
Position Summary:
This position functions as the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Coordinator for the Department of Military Affairs, Division of Emergency Management. Primary responsibilities consist of analyzing, designing, organizing, documenting, and monitoring GIS applications and tools used by the Division of emergency management. This position determines needs and provides ongoing support for GIS for the Division, including emergency planning, hazard mitigation, exercise design, hazardous materials response, and resource coordination in the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC).
This position works in partnership with the Department of Military Affairs GIS coordinator, to manage the Division’s GIS needs within the Department’s IT standards and infrastructure. The position has extensive knowledge and skills related to Information Systems (IS) utilization and specifically in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
The position serves within the Mission Support Section of the Division, and works as part of a team to provide overall technical support and business analysis for emergency management systems. This currently includes web-based proprietary software WebEOC; a statewide emergency information sharing and management system, which is utilized by various state and local governmental entities and includes approximately 2,700 registered users.
