HazardHub creates geospatial databases of natural hazards for insurance, real estate, and other vertical markets. We use publicly available geospatial data to model hazard risk and provide analog values to be used by the client to evaluate their portfolio of risk.
Location:
Interns must be in Madison or surrounding area.
Internship Duration:
February/March 1 – Spring Semester 2020 with possibility of extension and/or permanent employment.
Hours:
Flexible hours for 20 hours per week. Intern will work at the HazardHub Database Development office in Serendipity Labs on the Westside of Madison.
Position Summary:
The GIS Analyst will conduct basic GIS operations, initiate QC processes on geospatial files, search/extract geospatial data from internet source, and create/model new files using standard GIS procedures as instructed.
Intern Duties and Responsibilities:
The GIS Analyst will perform the tasks outlined in the above position summary in an independent manner without direct supervision. The internship will proceed as a series of distinct projects. Supervisor will meet with the intern to develop the scope, tasks and duties, data sources, outcomes, and time requirements at the beginning of each project. The intern must demonstrate the ability to work independently in a project-based environment, with the option to work remotely.
Qualifications:
Geography major/minor. Basic/Advanced GIS courses. Medium to advanced skills in ArcGIS and QGIS. Ability to work independently. Ability to maintain file security and confidentiality. Python and other GIS programming skills are desired.
