Definition

Under general supervision performs work of moderate difficulty in maintaining, analyzing and collecting data for the City’s GIS in relation to the Public Works Department; and performs related work as required.

Examples Of Duties

  • Updates GIS data for the Public Works Department including, but not limited to; Sanitary System, Storm System, Streets, Solid Waste, Buildings, Addresses, Snow Routes, Bus Routes, and specific any projects (i.e. Clean Water Program)
  • Utilizes GPS technology to collect field information in relation to City infrastructure; coordinates collection time with other City personnel; integrates collected data in the City’s GIS
  • Gathers and interprets source materials and records, such as construction plans, grade sheets, survey data, site plans and subdivision plats, for proper conversion into the City’s GIS
  • Performs analysis on existing GIS data for specific projects
  • Fulfills internal and external requests for maps by utilizing proper cartographic principles and procedures
  • Participates in the continuing development of the City’s GIS including meetings, committees and pertinent discussions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS or related field; two years of GIS work experience utilizing ESRI’s ArcGIS software; or a combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of work experience in GPS/Surveying field collection preferred.
  • Must pass a criminal background check as prescribed by the City of Davenport.
  • Must become an Iowa resident within two years of hire date and maintain residency throughout duration of employment (per Iowa Code 400.17).

 Knowledge and Skills

  • Must be proficient with ESRI’s ArcGIS suite of applications, GPS collection hardware and software, Microsoft Office including Access, GIS database design and implementation principles, interpretation of construction plans and procedures.
  • Utilize Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for enhanced mapping imagery.
  • Strong project coordination and verbal/written communication skills are essential.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Visual Basic/VBA, ArcSDE/ArcGIS Server, SQL Server is a plus.
