Description
The Engineering Division of the Department of Public Works for the City of Oshkosh is searching for Engineering Technicians. The Engineering Division administers approximately twenty five million dollars ($25 million) in construction contracts annually. The majority of these construction projects are designed and prepared by in-house staff, consisting of seven (7) engineers and ten (10) technicians, with varying degrees of experience. The City utilizes Autodesk Civil 3D for plan construction and preparation. In addition to Autodesk Civil 3D, the City utilizes a full line of ESRI products; ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro), ArcCatalog, ArcGIS Online, Collector, Survey123, Dashboards, etc. to assist in plan preparation, record keeping, and construction documentation.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will be highly motivated individuals capable of working independently and within a team atmosphere. The management of construction projects from survey, to design, and through construction is a highly collaborative process that requires everyone’s effort.
Current programing needs are expected to include an Engineering Technician to assist with our storm water and erosion control programs or project inspection.
Responsibilities
Under general supervision, employees in this position perform technical, moderately complex engineering related work on projects for the Department of Public Works. Work may include, but is not limited to: project development, including construction plans and specifications; project management; project close out; construction inspection; technical drafting and as-built mapping; surveying; record keeping and administrative work; preparing special assessments; coordinating with contractors and the public; providing customer assistance; and performing other duties as assigned.
Assignments are received orally or in writing and afford some opportunity for independent judgment in planning work or in making technical decisions. These positions work directly underneath a Civil Engineering Supervisor or Construction Management Supervisor and receive technical direction from Civil Engineering professionals. These positions are expected to work independently within established policies, practices and guidelines and exercise independent judgment on a daily basis. These positions work in cooperation with other staff.
