We are seeking an analytical and resourceful GIS Specialist for a full-time position at our Milwaukee office. This position will primarily be responsible for designing and managing GIS datasets, configuring, and supporting implementation of GIS applications, and providing technical support and training to clients. This position reports to our Director of Business Development but will support and collaborate with engineers, project managers and other technical staff, and external customers and teams.

Key tasks include:

  • Designing, developing, and implementing systems and databases for storing and accessing geospatial data.
  • Working with and collaborating extensively with design staff, engineering, and field crews to ensure accuracy and completeness of geodata.

Essential Duties:

  • Provide guidance and perform GIS data acquisition to create and maintain geodatabases.
  • Work with GIS related software and programs to create and maintain a database and/or maps that can be utilized to create geographically correlated data.
  • Complete data conversions, spatial data creations and edits, and data validation and maintenance of digital infrastructure spatial data and related information.
  • Develop, organize, manage, and deliver geodatabases to clients that meet specific contract standards.
  • Support GIS users with data creation, data editing, and technical issues relating to GIS software.
  • Analyze spatial data to compile geographic statistics to incorporate into documentation and reporting.
  • Create, develop, and manage GIS databases and web-based GIS project sites.
  • Ensure quality cartographic and engineering design with appropriate scaling.
  • Gather GPS data utilizing GPS units, post-processing, and manipulation tactics.
  • Plan, coordinate, and work on specific GIS projects and activities; consult and collaborate with GIS team to evaluate and plan organizational GIS needs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geoscience, Environmental studies, or similar field.
  • At least 1 to 3 years of experience in GIS or mapping work.
  • Must have strong knowledge of GIS principles and practices, software, and cartography.
  • Extremely organized and highly detail-oriented with thorough verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritize work tasks to manage multiple project assignments.
  • Must be proficient in ESRI software (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online including tools such as Collector, Dashboards, Survey123, and Story Maps).
  • Experienced in database design, information needs, and metadata development standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geoscience, Environmental studies, or similar field.
  • GIS Certification
  • Working experience in the consulting industry.
