This position will be responsible for land surveying and providing quality control/quality assurance for contracted survey services in a transportation regional office as well as providing basic engineering knowledge and surveying expertise in the methods, tools, software, hardware, procedures, and legal and statutory requirements required for any manner of survey data collection for the office. This position will assist the Regional Survey Coordinators by serving as the office contact for survey functions with all sections of the region, the general public, local officials, private land surveyors, and engineering consultants, as needed.  Under the direction of the Regional Survey Coordinators, this position is responsible for providing design and construction teams with engineering survey guidance for the development of highway and bridge improvement plans.

Additionally, this position may assist in any or all of the following as directed by the Regional Survey Coordinator(s): editing specification language/special provisions; preparing solicitations, contract negotiation, soliciting bids; providing input into contractor selections, monitoring contract activity and progress to ensure compliance with requirements of contract language and federal and state laws and regulations; maintaining records of  contract activities; reviewing invoices, and approving/obtaining approval for payments.

Qualifications:

A qualified candidate will have coursework/training OR experience in All of the following:

•Mathematics, including geometry and trigonometry
•Principles and/or practices of land surveying
•Computer programs for survey and/or Computer Aided Design and Drafting System (CADDS) applications (i.e. Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MicroStation, COGO)

In addition to the above, at the senior level, the candidate will have experience in the following:

•Creating right of way plats or certified survey maps or subdivision plats
•Writing legal descriptions
