On Monday, June 8, 2026, the State Cartographer’s Office will be relocated to the old Computer Sciences building at 1210 W. Dayton St. on the UW-Madison campus. Computer Sciences is right next door to Union South, the Discovery Building and Morgridge Hall. Our offices will be on the second floor in Tower 2 (southwest side of Computer Sciences).

We are moving out of Science Hall — our home for over fifty years — so that a major renovation of the building can occur. We expect to be back in the “new” Science Hall in the summer of 2029. All other departments and units in Science Hall are also affected by this move, including the Robinson Map Library, the Cart Lab, the Geography Department and the Nelson Institute.
Note that, while we are vacating Science Hall on June 8, we are not projected to be fully set up in Computer Sciences until the end of June. The move out of Science Hall is expected to take three weeks. During that time, our offices will not be open in Computer Sciences and all SCO staff and students will be working remotely. We’ll post an article in a few weeks when the end of the move is known more precisely.
Our website and phone number are unaffected by this move and will continue to operate as normal.
