Job Description: Purpose of the position: The purpose of this position is to assist in the development of the State Forest master plans. Role the position plays: The position serves as the primary coordination point of a variety of professional planning activities. These include issue identification, assessment of informational needs in state forest planning as they relate to the property and the region, serve as primary author and editor of planning documents, facilitate planning discussions and decision making process design, and development of printed material including assessments and plans. Location, position’s geographic scope & travel requirements: This position is located in Madison. Some in-state travel is required with occasional overnights. Scope of authority: This position works under the general supervision of the Forest Lands Section Chief.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities: 50% Authors, edits and prepares plan documents. Writes and prepares final plan documents. 20 % Collaborates with all master plan team leader’s with project management related to developing a master plan; including analyzing and evaluating issues, coordinating development and review to ensure ecological, economic and social issues are addressed, setting and tracking timelines and accomplishments, coordinating meeting agendas and logistics. 10 % Prepares routine written projects including researching, analyzing findings and making recommendations on concepts. 10% Participates in integrated master planning team’s. 5% Develop alternatives for land management classifications and recreation developments, and develop plan documents for public review. Assist ecological and recreation sub-teams in process techniques, including facilitation and conflict resolution. %u2022 5% Assist in the development and implementation of public input sessions and analysis of comments. Confers with and provides information to staff, local units of government, and the public regarding the planning process.
Knowledge Required: Competencies: Skills, Abilities, & Knowledge Knowledge required upon appointment Degree in planning or natural resource management, or a field related to the area of assignment, Or two years of planning or natural resource related experience Knowledge of forest-based recreation uses and trend. Principles and practices related to planning. Basic principles and practices of project management. Practice of researching issues, evaluating alternatives, and facilitating decision making. Principles of natural resource and recreation management. Computer applications related to the work, including basic office software and GIS concepts.
