Duties:
Provide technical assistance related to the development of web mapping applications for the Great Lakes Observing System (http://glos.us/). The primary application is HarborView, which is an integrated, web-based viewer with underlying Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) web services for nearshore currents, winds, waves and prevailing weather for Great Lakes harbors.
Requirements:
Knowledge of scripting languages such asjava_script and/or PHP. Experience developing web mapping applications using the Google Maps API and the Keyhole Markup Language. Willingness to learn about and apply Open Geospatial Consortium standards and protocols that support interoperability of geospatial data. Knowledge of geographic information science, environmental management, and computer programming. Outstanding written and oral communication skills. Ability to work independently, as well as collaborate effectively with professional staff. Self-directed, energetic, and organized work habits.
Salary:
$10 to $15/hour depending on experience. Up to 20 hours per week through April 30, 2009. Any appointment beyond April 30, 2009 is dependent on availability of funding and job performance.
