The Land Information and Computer Graphics Facility (LICGF) is seeking a project assistant in the general area of land use planning and spatial analysis to conduct an assessment of local land use planning in rural Wisconsin. LICGF has supported the development of comprehensive landuse plans in six towns surrounding the Kickapoo Reserve in Vernon County. We would like to evaluate how well these plans complied with the letter and the intent of Wisconsin’s “Smart Growth” law, assess the potential impacts on the people and resources of the area, and provide recommendations to the communities on implementing and improving their plans. The projectwill generate two products – a report to the citizens of the area and a manuscript describing the process and outcomes for publication.

This is a 1/2-time six-month project assistantship (January – June 2010), working through LICGF. The PA will be responsible for developing a detailed project proposal, working throughhuman subjects research training and protocol submission, conducting the research, and initial drafts of the project report and manuscript. Good project management and writing skills are necessary. Familiarity with rural land use planning and resource management will be helpful.
