This is a 13 month term appointment with a full-time work schedule.

This position is with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Wisconsin Water Science Center located in Middleton, WI. The selectee of this position will be responsible for the following major duties:

  • Assists other project scientists in conducting water-resources studies by collecting and analyzing physical, hydrologic and water-quality data. Reviews and investigates data quality and integrity.
  • Applies database management, statistical analysis, and various other computer related skills to assist in the scientific evaluation of water resources relationships and problems.
  • Plans and carries out a wide range of water-quality data collection assignments such as collecting water samples from wells, streams, and lakes; measuring physical parameters of water; and collecting biological and/or sediment samples.
  • Write portions of interpretive reports and data reports, and prepares data for publication. Prepares data using geographic information system (GIS) technology, method of compilation statements, and graphics for reports.
  • Operates a government motor vehicle as an incidental driver.
  • Physical demands require frequent physical exertion while conducting field portions of project work and with inspection of ongoing operations, including walking over rough, rocky or uneven terrain; lifting and carrying equipment and supplies; and wading in streams in all types of weather.
