Job Duties:
This position performs environmental analysis and review related to department programs administered under chapters 91, 92, and 93, Stats. This position is responsible for handling all facets of compliance with state conservation standards including review of local compliance programs and activities, update of state standards through rule making, and provision of compliance assistance. The position makes farm visits to assess compliance with conservation standards and helps local governments identify county natural resources that can benefit from state conservation programs. Collect and manage conservation data. This position works as part of one or more bureau teams to review the preparation and implementation of land and water resource management and other plans within the Bureau’s purview.

Desired Skills
– Extensive knowledge of statutes and rules pertaining to soil and water conservation, local planning and regulation, and government agencies that administer agriculture-related program.
– Extensive knowledge of the technical guides and standards used by governmental agencies for conservation practices, and used by farmers to improve water quality, and manage animal wastes. Considerable knowledge of the principles and techniques of communication: both written and oral.
Knowledge and skill in the management of information and data, including use of computer software programs such as Access or other database, and Arc/View and Arc/Info GIS software.
– Ability to function effectively in a team environment.

Special Notes:
– Work activities will be performed primarily in an office environment. However, the incumbent must be able to travel throughout the state and must be able to make farm visits.
