Position Summary:

Responsible for application of precise technical engineering skills to support and complete Engineering Department projects. Assignments may include surveying for design and layout of public works projects; traffic studies; construction inspection of public works projects; drafting of engineering drawings, maps, and surveys; and preparation of maps for utilities and other municipal features and facilities. May function as Survey Crew Chief/Member, CAD/GIS Operator, or Project Representative for public works projects.

Qualifications:

Requires an Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering or other closely related field, or equivalent combination of degree and related experience in professional engineering, drafting, inspection, mapping, and surveying which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job.  Testing may be requested to verify required skills.  Valid Wisconsin driver’s license required.

Additional Requirements:

Experience or training in Autodesk Civil 3D software, ESRI ArcGIS software, Trimle Survey Controller field collection software, GPS and conventional surveying equipment and methods, including total stations and automatic and digital levels, and Microsoft Office software products.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preparation of maps, engineering drawings, and plan sets for public works construction projects incorporating plan and profiles, cross sections, and standard details using AutoCAD Civil 3D software.
  • Perform a variety of drafting and mapping operations including preparation of Survey maps, annexation maps, and other mappying related to municipal facilities and projects using AutoCAD Civil 3D software.
  • Assist GIS Analyst in preparation of municipal facilities mapping, and mapping of other land based features using ESRI ArcGIS software.
  • Download traffic survey data from traffic counters and prepare reports for use by other Engineering staff.
  • May provide training to other employees in the operation of equipment and software.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a Project Representative performing layout and inspection of public works construction projects to insure conformance with project plans and specifications; record notes and observations; record locations for future reference.
