General Summary:
Develop new and improve existing utility Geographical Information Systems (GIS) with the goal of providing geospatial database resources with advance technical solutions.
Responsibilities:
The following are essential responsibilities of this position and do not include marginal functions that are incidental to the performance of the fundamental job duties. The scope and duties of this position may change or be altered based on the business needs of the company. The basic requirement of every position is to perform all tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- Develop and improve various GIS databases through map preparation, data entry, digitizing, editing and quality control techniques.
- Interpret electric distribution construction and maintenance from Work Orders to update GIS databases accurately.
- Train and assist GIS users in defining needs and developing GIS applications.
- Identify and develop processes to automate data collection, data integration, and updates.
- Continuing research in current literature, trends, and development in the field of GIS.
- Update and maintain engineering models to ensure accurate representation of the utility system.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or geography.
- Knowledge typically acquired through five years of GIS experience.
- Proficient with computer software tools, especially ESRI GIS, AutoCAD, Oracle Database, MS SQL, MS Excel, and MS Access.
- Knowledge of electric utility systems. Gas and water utility systems knowledge a plus.
- Working knowledge of Milsoft Windmil® distribution analysis software is a plus.
- Possess ability to achieve quality results, be change-oriented, use effective communication skills, be customer-driven, foster innovation, be a continuous learner, and display teamwork behavior.
- Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Must live within 30 miles of Madison, WI. Relocation assistance is not included.
