Position Description:
The UMESC Geospatial Sciences & Technologies (GS&T) Branch provides geospatial support to the center and participates in two long term studies: Long Term Resource Monitoring (LTRM) component of the Upper Mississippi River Restoration – Environmental Management Program (UMRR-EMP) and collaboration with the National Park Service to classify, describe, and map vegetation in over 270 national park units. Sample tasks for this work include:
- Hydro-flatten LiDAR data for two Wisconsin counties
- Digitize aerial photography to support the LTRM component of the UMRR-EMP
- Create GIS maps of native freshwater mussels in the Upper Mississippi River
- Support several NPS vegetation mapping projects, including data mining and geodatabase development
Requirements:
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Geography or a closely related field. A Master’s degree is a plus. A minimum of one year experience using ESRI Software – ArcInfo and ArcMap – is required. Specialized knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques of GIS technology as well as the ability to solve complex GIS problems is a plus. Knowledge of the NPS Vegetation Inventory Program (VIP) is a plus.
