The Public and Environmental Affairs department offers two undergraduate majors in 1) Environmental Policy & Planning and 2) Public Administration.  The department is also instrumental in the support of the Political Science major and is highly involved with the graduate program in Environmental Science and Policy as well as the certificate program in Environmental Sustainability and Business, and minors in Geography and Global Studies.  The department also supports teaching needs in the area of social science statistics and research methods. 

The position of Assistant Professor of Public and Environmental Affairs (Environmental Planning and Policy) will include the following responsibilities:

  • Teach a course load of 21 credits per academic year including GIS related courses, environment and society, and environmental planning. 
  • Teach other courses within area of specialization and applicable to departmental needs.
  • Perform scholarly activities consistent with rank.
  • Advise students.
  • Perform institutional service and contribute to the ongoing development of the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in environmental planning, geography, public policy or related field from an accredited institution.  Will consider ABD candidates with the expectation that the degree is completed no later than May 25, 2014.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship.
  • Commitment to undergraduate education.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with a diverse array of students and colleagues.

Conditions of Appointment:

Position is an academic year tenure-track appointment.  Applicants must be considered for tenure and promotion in six years although tenure decisions may be at any time.  Promotion from Assistant to Associate Professor is simultaneous with tenure.  Excellence in teaching, sustained scholarly activity and institutional service required for retention and promotion. Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s).
