Job Description: Two half-time or 20 hours per week positions under general supervision:
70% Creation of complex cartographic maps that will be used primarily for planning DNR owned and managed properties. Includes both the creation of high quality, custom maps for presentation and publication and working maps for planning team use. Position will require receiving direction from planning team leader and team sponsors and working with multi-disciplinary planning teams.
15% Evaluate and develop geospatial data and perform spatial analysis for property master planning to meet the business needs of the Bureau of Facilities and Lands and its property holding clients in the Land Division.
10% Work with property managers, and others, to compile accurate property data for master plan maps, including GPS collection.
5% Provide planning lead with cartographic and other visual displays for public and internal meetings.
Knowledge Required: Applicants must have sufficient training and experience to demonstrate that, upon appointment, the skills and knowledge necessary to perform the tasks have been acquired. Examples include:
- Knowledge and experience in the development and management of natural resource information systems including, field data collection (e.g. field computers and GPS), basic database design, development, implementation and maintenance.
- Experience in the use of ArcGIS 10.1 in a Windows environment.
- Knowledge of natural resource planning processes and public participation methods.
- Operate a variety of computer and related peripheral equipment including graphic applications, media devices, printers and plotters.
- Ability to communicate with a variety of public and private organizations to exchange information, receive requests and resolve questions and/or concerns.
- Strong cartographic skills and experience preparing and presenting maps to the general public
- Knowledge of aerial photography used in natural resources and remote sensing techniques.
- Knowledge of customer service concepts and strategies.
- Experience developing and managing multiple projects.
- Good organizational skills and ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment.
