POSITION
A Geographic Information System (GIS) Technician/Cartographer (Research Associate II Special) position is available with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). This position is located at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.
ORGANIZATION
CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies state-of-the-art science to foster sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support in environmental disciplines, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain the resource base.

LOCATION
Fort McCoy is a United States Army Reserve installation between Sparta and Tomah, Wisconsin. The installation lies on 60,000 acres between eastern forests and western prairies. The area has warm summers and cold winters. The installation supports year-round training for all branches of the Armed Services in a variety of realistic training scenarios.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will provide technical support for the geospatial information used in range operations. Other duties include performing cartographic design and production, and working with the GIS analyst to develop and maintain Spatial Data Standards for Facilities Infrastructure and Environment (SDSFIE) complaint geodatabases and Federal Geospatial Data Committee (FGDC)- compliant metadata. Other duties may include collecting field data (GPS), assisting with data analyses, and providing GIS products and information for reports, presentations and other products.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate must demonstrate U.S. employment eligibility. CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position. A BS/BA in geography or closely related discipline with GIS coursework and one continuous year of professional (post graduate) experience in GIS as a principle responsibility are required. Experience with ArcGIS 10.x or higher and experience with GIS database development are necessary. The successful candidate must have the ability to work as part of a team in a structured organization and to work under harsh weather conditions and in uneven terrain.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate should demonstrate knowledge of geodatabase structure, functions, management, and development. Experience with enterprise GIS, solid local and network file management skills, demonstrated experience working with GIS applications in natural resources management, cartography, and GPS hardware/software are preferred. Knowledge of and experience with Army/DoD GIS programs and spatial data standards (SDSFIE) and the ability to work and meet established program standards and requirements is preferred.

SALARY
Salary is commensurate with experience and skillset. Salary range starting at $40,000. Continuation of the position is dependent on the receipt of funding from the sponsor for GIS Analyst/Cartographer efforts at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.
