The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) currently has a GIS Analyst and Project Leader: IS Systems Development Services Specialist position available. This position works with the GIS team to provide project leadership skills to research and initiate GIS projects and engage in selected tasks that require a GIS and Project Lead background. The GIS team relies on this position for business case analytics and troubleshooting skills when interfacing with end-users.
WisDOT’s Bureau of Information Technology Services is an automation service provider operating for the benefit of the Department of Transportation’s business divisions operating statewide. WisDOT automated systems include nationally and internationally recognized programs in geographic information systems (GIS), engineering roadway design, computer aided system engineering (CASE), electronic data interchange (EDI), driver licensing issuance, motor carrier information systems, law enforcement and computing technologies across complex networking and web structures. The Modal Support and GIS Development Support Unit specializes in providing environments for development and delivery of WisDOT’s geospatial systems. The unit also partners with the IS Section staff to provide the specialized technical expertise necessary to support the geospatial software environment.
Job Duties: This position will perform project management and system analyst activities associated with IT projects involved in the development of highly complex departmental GIS and Modal Support systems. The GIS Analyst/ Project Leader will create the required project management artifacts including planning, proposal, and procurement documents which make recommendations and provide detailed plans for effective solutions to business problems. This position, additionally, provides direction to IT and private/ contracted staff and vendors assigned to the project development and GIS operation support efforts.
At times, this position will perform consulting and technical support services related to GIS and IT project development. This consultation/ technical support can include mentoring IT project leaders and staff on project management and/ or application development methodologies and best practices.
