Position Description

Job Summary: 

This is a blended position to coordinate and oversee operation of GIS systems across all Westwood offices while retaining project level GIS work.  The position will work with other Senior GIS staff to implement GIS standards across the company, introduceGIS services to additional offices and maintain software licenses for computers and GPS equipment.   The GIS Coordinator reports to the Director of Environmental Services, takes direction for project needs from various project managers, and has broad authority to set GIS priorities for national GIS services. 
 

Qualifications:

The position requires a bachelor’s degree and six to ten years of professional GIS experience.  Ability to effectively coordinate and oversee daily operational needs of GIS users, manage internal client satisfaction, mentor staff, resolve operational issues with GIS staff and software, and provide quality control.  Effective writing, verbal communication skills and capacity for independent judgment are essential.  Strong leadership skills will differentiate the successful candidate. 

GIS Duties:

Training:

  •  Identify training needs and organize specific training topics.
  • Provide GIS training to new users (new hire orientation) and training on updates.
  • Develop an annual budget for GIS training.
  • Identify / develop programs on new GIS applications.
  • Analyze user skills and work with managers to develop programs for user development.
  •  Provide Tips & Tricks reference worksheets for users.

Standards:
 

  • Implement compliance evaluation process.
  • Provide enforcement and guidance with GIS standards.
  • Coordinate with GIS standards sub-committee and Corporate GIS standards.
  • Disseminate GIS standard changes on Intranet.

Document Management:

  • Maintain GIS resources (borders, shape files, databases, utilities, applications, and customization).
  • Provide document procedure training and reference sheets for users.

Development / New Technology:

  • Identify technology needs and provide testing on new technology
  • Evaluate optimization and processes of existing technology.

Support:

  • Provide support and guidance for day-to-day GIS users.
  • Create and develop GIS lead or power users support staff in other offices.
  • Coordinate GIS users meetings between other offices (travel to outer offices when necessary).
  • Assist supervisors with GIS performance reviews on GIS users as requested.
