Position Summary:

The Department of Geography and Earth Science in the College of Science and Health at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse invites applications for a part-time (up to 45% appointment) GIS Lab Manager to manage the Department’s computer teaching labs and research facilities.

The role of this position is to provide support in the form of technical assistance and technical consultation for faculty and students engaged in the use of geographic information systems (GIS) as well as other geospatial software and hardware. This includes administrative and technical support for all GIS lab workstations, printers and faculty research labs, coordinating with UW-L Information Technology Services to complete the computer imaging process and maintenance of student, faculty and teaching folders on the Department’s file server, maintaining software licenses and hardware, maintaining the Department website, supervising the GIS laboratory student assistant(s), and performing other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

Associate degree or equivalent. Must have experience in computer hardware and software maintenance, systems administration, managing user accounts and networking in a Windows environment, and strong communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science or related field. Knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS) and/or other geospatial technologies, such as ArcGIS, ERDAS Imagine, ENVI, and MAPublisher.
