The Department of Geography and Earth Science at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse invites applications for a human geography tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2015.

We seek to hire a geographer with interests in demography, human migration, human vulnerability and/or risk assessment. The Department is particularly interested in a human geographer who has the potential to link with existing department strengths and contribute to the  Environmental Science and GIS concentrations offered by the Department.  The ideal candidate will have research and teaching interests that support these two areas within our program as well as our Geography major.  This position would facilitate an understanding of the connections between the human and the physical environments. Candidates will preferably have competence in human geography research methods, GIS or other analytical approaches that are empirically grounded and informed by spatial theory, and be able to integrate innovative methodologies into teaching. The appointee will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, develop an active research program seeking external grants, participate in undergraduate research, and provide service to the University and broader community and profession.  Teaching responsibilities include one of the Department’s core general education courses in human geography (World Regional Geography) as well as upper-level courses such as Population Geography and Economic Geography, and courses in their specialty.
