Introduction
The Legislative Technology Services Bureau (LTSB) provides leading-edge information technology services and support to the Wisconsin Legislature. LTSB is a nonpartisan legislative service agency located on the Capitol Square in downtown Madison, Wisconsin. The LTSB is accepting applications to recruit a skilled and enthusiastic GIS Analyst/Developer on its GIS Team. Salary is dependent on experience and qualifications.
Position Description
We are looking for someone who possesses the desire and aptitude to develop GIS applications in an enterprise environment. While the candidate may initially have minimal experience in programming, they will be shadowing the lead GIS Developer.
As a member of the GIS Team, you must have broad understanding of the concepts and techniques involved in performing geographic analysis. Candidates must have strong customer service skills, the desire to teach basic GIS skills, troubleshoot GIS hardware and software, and the ability to use current GIS software and techniques to help our customers realize the benefits of GIS. Candidates must be able to deliver GIS products including maps, data and reports to clients in a timely manner.
This GIS Analyst/Developer position will be assigned to various project teams and will report primarily to the GIS Manager. We are interested in people that work well in a team environment. This position will interact directly with all of LTSB’s teams, legislators, legislative staff, local officials, state and federal agencies, and the general public.
Knowledge/Experience Required
- Qualified candidates must possess a degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science or a related field
- 1 – 2 years of experience using GIS software and data (Preferably ESRI products)
- GIS web and application development aptitude and/or experience
- Must have training or experience working with ArcGIS Server
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Some experience with Microsoft Visual Studio, VB.NET, JavaScript/HTML/CSS
- Some experience creating/customizing web/desktop mapping applications
- Some coursework in computer programming
