The Bay-Lake Regional Planning Commission (Bay-Lake RPC) is seeking a Transportation Technician to assist the Transportation Planner with various projects related to the processing of transit surveys, land use inventory work and some report writing. The Bay-Lake RPC is now accepting applications for a temporary, grant-funded employee to conduct various transportation and land use activities.
Position Description:
The Transportation Technician will work closely with, and under the direction of, the Transportation Planner. Some interaction with other Bay-Lake RPC staff (such as the GIS Coordinator) will also occur within the position. The majority of the time will be spent in the office, with some time spent in the field with land use inventory work or assisting with the administration of transit surveys. Duties of the position will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assistance in conducting passenger opinion and boarding and alighting surveys for two transit systems in the region (Maritime Metro Transit in Manitowoc/Two Rivers, and Shoreline Metro in Sheboygan).
- Entry of raw data and analysis of results from the passenger opinion surveys for Maritime Metro Transit and Shoreline Metro (Experience with applications related to entry of large volumes of data and cross tabulation analysis required).
- Assistance with analyzing results from the boarding and alighting surveys for Maritime Metro Transit and Shoreline Metro.
- Assistance in writing reports summarizing results from the passenger opinion and boarding and alighting surveys for Maritime Metro Transit and Shoreline Metro.
- Begin an updated land use inventory of the Sheboygan metropolitan planning area (this may include field work at times), with the potential that this work could be expanded to include all of Sheboygan County in 2016.
- Additional duties in the Sheboygan Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) transportation planning program, as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Junior or senior status at a college or university, with major in urban and regional planning or similar academic concentration. Individuals who have completed a Bachelor’s degree or higher in urban and regional planning or similar major would also be good candidates for this position.
- Experience with entry of survey data responses
- Experience with land use inventory work (or similar field-to-GIS work experiences)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Technology skills:
- Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint (Required)
- Basic ArcGIS (Required)
- Ability to post updates on the Bay-Lake RPC website (Desirable)
- Ability to post relevant information on social networking sites, including Facebook, Twitter and others (Desirable)
- Highly motivated and organized
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to meet project goals
- Ability to research, compile and distribute information
- Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance
