Job Summary:
The City of Rogers is seeking a Geographic Information System (GIS) Intern to work up to 40 hours/week for the summer. Benefits are not included due to the limited amount of hours. GIS Intern will assist the Public Works Department with GIS related tasks including map production and data management.
Scope of Responsibility:
Work is completed in both field and office settings. Intern will have opportunities to practice in the following areas:
· ESRI ArcGIS software
· Shapefile/Geodatabase creation and management
· Maps and other graphic products
· Data acquisition and infrastructure inventory
· Global Positioning Systems (GPS) equipment
· Other duties or responsibilities as apparent, directed, or required
Minimum Qualifications:
o Minimum age of 18.
o Must be a university student, in good standing, currently enrolled in a Geography, GIS, Cartography, or related program.
o One-year experience with ESRI GIS products in addition general knowledge of surveying, mapping, and GPS functionality.
o Ability to proficiently operate GIS and Microsoft Office software.
o Understanding of cartographic principles
o Ability to work cooperatively and establish good relations with co-workers, program users, and the public at large.
o Ability to stay focused and multi-task on independent and group projects while maintaining attention to detail
o Must have valid driver’s license with driving record acceptable to the City.
o Preference is given to students with a high GPA and returning interns in good standing.
