Degree and area of specialization:
Ph.D degree in GIScience or related field is required.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Candidates should be trained broadly in the area of GIScience but with technical skills and experience in general programming, spatial databases, web and mobile programming, and emerging technologies in GIScience. Must have excellent communication skills
Candidates with the following experiences and proficiencies are especially encouraged to apply:
- Online teaching and/or online course development;
- Academic advising;
- Spatial analysis;
- General programming (such as Python, C, Fortran) in the context of GIS development (such as interfacing with existing GIS libraries, e.g., GDAL);
- Designing and developing databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL or Oracle;
- Developing web applications using Java, JSP, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS;
- Mobile programming in Java and/or C++;
Principal Duties:
Instruction (75%)
- Teach two online courses per semester (fall and spring)
- Teach one online summer course and work with the program director to co-manage online student Practicum projects
Program Service (25%)
- Semester-to-semester curriculum maintenance including new case study and tool development
- Assist program director in graduate student advising
- Manage our alumni services
- Organize summer student forums
Additional Information:
The Professional Master’s program is a non-thesis, fully online program operating on a program revenue model. It is oriented toward skills development with a focus on training students in advanced geospatial database design, geospatial analysis, web-based and mobile mapping, geovisualization, and programming skills. The program is targeted at working professionals and international students who are interested in GIS programming and new tools/techniques for advanced GIS application support.
