Overview:
La Crosse County has an opportunity for a specialized technical position in the Zoning, Planning
and Land Information Department working with legal land descriptions and maps, and providing
assistance to the Real Property Lister.

- Maintains land descriptions for tax and assessing purposes for all parcels of land under the jurisdiction of the County.
- Researches records in the Register of Deeds office as necessary for ownership and legal description discrepancies.
- Calculates acreages, land boundaries and rewrites legal descriptions when changes to parcels occur.
- Maintains personal property accounts supplied by assessors.
- Assists the Real Property Li ster to act as liaison between municipal assessors, clerks and treasurers for the assessment and taxation of real and personal property in La Crosse County, including the preparation of the Assessment Rolls, electronic Tax Rolls and Tax Bills.
- Provides back-up for the Real Property Lister.
- Maintains and improves Real Property Listing procedures to reflect new developments in technology and statute changes.
- Utilizes sophisticated computerized system for maintaining files and making changes in ownership of
- parcels, school districts, legal descriptions and taxation district codes.
- Prepares paper and computerized maps of land parcels pursuant to legal description and keeps current by taxation year.
- Inputs and retrieves data via computer.
- Carries heavy load of data entry with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Runs reports as needed to accomplish assigned tasks.
- Answers inquiries from the public both on the phone and in person relative to property tax, assessed valuation information and land information.
- Waits on the counter and assists the public with assessment, taxation and land information questions.
Training, Experience and Other Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited high school with proficiency in mathematics.
- Preference for training in geography, property assessment and taxation, surveying, drafting or math.
- Experience or specialized training in interpreting land descriptions, drafting maps and civil engineering drawings and/or in land surveying, abstracting, title work, or related .
- Proficiency in using Geographic Information Systems, especially ESRI ArcView software.
- Proficiency in using MS Outlook, Excel and Word.
- May consider other relevant combinations of training and experience.
- Applicants will be tested for mapping/ math skills.
