Assistant Professor – Remote Sensing

Job Description:

The Department of Geography and Geographic Information Science (GGIS) at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time (9 month), tenured Associate Professor or tenure-track Assistant Professor in Remote Sensing with interests in methodology, data analytics, and domain applications of remote sensing.  Priority will be given to applicants whose research programs complement or align with one or more current departmental and school research strengths (see www.geog.illinois.edu and http://www.earth.illinois.edu).  These include: cyberGIS, geospatial data science, human-environment interaction, sustainable development, health, urban and economic development, river and watershed dynamics, transportation, land use/land cover change, and natural hazards.  The position involves teaching courses on remote sensing and contributing to the department’s core curriculum in GIScience.  

Qualifications and Experience:

Successful candidates are expected to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and to establish and maintain an active, independent, and externally funded research program.  A Ph.D. in Geography or a related field is required at the time of appointment.  Applicants at the assistant professor level must have a promising research agenda and a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching.  Applicants at the associate professor level must have an excellent record in research, teaching and service.  The target starting date is August 16, 2017.
