Job Description
The Information Technology and Records Management Area (ITRM) of the Human Services and Public Health Department (HSPHD) is seeking a motivated GIS Analyst. The person hired will have an understanding of GIS technology and analysis and ability to successfully collaborate with coworkers to support the geospatial needs of the Data Management Team, and business partners to meet the Human Services and Public Health Department’s critical GIS needs.
This is a limited duration, benefit earning position for an expected duration of up to two years.
Primary Duties:
- Support and lead advanced GIS spatial analysis projects.
- Perform day-to-day data and map creation.
- Create and maintain department wide GIS datasets, and support datasets that become Hennepin County enterprise datasets.
- Solicit requirements, create and maintain ArcGIS Online maps, and applications that support Human Services staff needs.
- Participate in capturing and modeling data requirements as they relate to geospatial data.
- Lead, participate and consult on geospatial data management projects.
Qualifications & Experience:
- One of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technology field and one year or more of IT experience.
- An approved IT certificate and two years or more of IT experience.
- Completion of five or more college/vocational technical courses and two years or more of IT experience.
- Completion of approved IT Hennepin County internship of 240 hours or more and two years or more of IT experience.
- Four years or more of IT experience.
- Two years or more of professional GIS experience.
- Experience working with Esri’s ArcGIS for Desktop Software (10.x), ArcGIS Online and applications (Esri Maps for Office, Esri Maps for SharePoint).
- Knowledge of spatial database design principles and geodatabase construction.
- Experience with Agile development practices.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and decision making skills.
- Ability to:
- Clearly present complex technical information to a variety of audiences.
- Complete documentation procedures and metadata.
- Successfully work independently and also as part of a team.
- Work effectively with an increasingly diverse client population.
