Intermediate GIS Technician
The GIS Technician uses geographic information systems to modify and create maps for improvements to MGE mapped gas and electric infrastructure. The individual analyzes designs and confers with engineers or consultants to ensure conformance to MGE geospatial specifications.
Select Duties/Responsibilities
- Works with engineers or consultants to determine what changes/modifications need to be made to GIS datasets.
- Ensures new and modified data meet current engineering specifications and mapping standards.
- Ensures and maintains geospatial network connectivity for electric and gas datasets.
- Verifies content of data attributes are accurate.
- Places appropriate dimensions per mapping and design standards.
- Occasionally goes out in the field to assist with collecting survey data.
- May download survey data into computer program to plot the data and generate charts.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- An associate or bachelor degree in geographic information systems. Related degree, GIS Certification, or work experience with geographic information systems in lieu of a formal GIS education may be substituted.
- Three to five years of experience working with Esri and Schneider Electric mapping software preferred.
- Experience with ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Online.
- Working knowledge of MicroStation.
- Familiarity with SQL Server database platform.
- Experience within the utility or other regulated industry is strongly preferred.

- Strong communications skills including the ability to coordinate work with others.
- Ability to work well as part of a team as well as ability to work alone.
